I'm going to use the Princess Bride defense and say that when your characters die in game they're *mostly* dead. When Togo or Rurik die they're *totally* dead.

Forget it.
My characters won't be dead by the time of Guild Wars 2. They're immortal!
They'll just be.... busy....
Chae Soon for one will be busy getting it on with Jora, in a nice, secluded home at the top of that mountain on Shing Jea island that is effectively unreachable in GW.
So there.

I personally am glad that u will not be able to bring your char to GW2. I would hate having to be behind all of you for the second guild wars. Why shouldn't new player like myself have a chance to regain why we lost and start all over the same as most of u guys? Though we probably will never be able to, since u guys have more knowledge than we ever are, but at least were on the same pace. So next time, when u talk about GW1 char to GW2, think of other first, then yourselve. Not everyone is fortunate to play GW when it first came out.
In my case, i didn't have a decent connection cuz my parent didn't believe in game. Suck for me I guess.
The bottom line is I want to be on the same pace as all u pro and vet.

Well GW2 is a total new game. So all characters are gone it 100 years have pasted since the first GW. So are characters would over 103 years old so they be old farts. From what i heard the level Cap gets increase in GW2 idk if that or wrong so i wont put it as fact until Anet give a clearlfy of the that. But the good thing is all the Stuff we put in HoM are characters get to use in GW2 well from what i read.

well for the ones that dont want theyr characters to die just when create the new characters on gw2 give them the same name and the same appearance you have in gw1 - so what you loose ? experience + weapons + armor - well if you could move your characters to gw2 all this would be lost too because experience + material stuff will be diferent in gw2
So create new characters in gw2 = characters you have in gw1 and just think your character like you are starting a new game

Video games rules 101.
The big number 1 rule
If it dies in a cutscene, its dead.
Video game rule number 2!
If it's not dead, it wasn't supposed to be dead.

that will likely be a problem for players like me who's main are the mighty derv, sins, rits, or paras as those classes will likely be destroyed, twisted, or incorporated into the core classes.

An example of this is something that may have been changed by an update, but when I died in the Shiverpeaks a few months ago, I could still see the steam from my character's breath, despite the fact that the health was at 0.

I think i agree with the idea when you character dies he/she is mostly dead like completly knocked or soul still remains in the body, but when people like rurik and togo died thet were either cut up ( in ruriks case) or soul (i think) used in somesort of sacrifice in togos case. And probably lore wise if your dead for quite some time, you can't be ressed, well that is my oppinion anyway..

Starting early helps a lot but in the end many I know who started half a year ago are ten times richer than me.

In any case, i'd prefer that my characters do die, because im going to play as a Charr in gw2. So if my character from gw1 is still alive they'd fight each other... (he's a prophecies character, so he's from Ascalon)
Just imagine, you log in and you find your charas wacking themselves on the head.

Well, think about it this way; (And please don't get on me for being off topic, because I got a point).
How many times has Master Chief died in Halo? I mean, every has died in that game during the single player campain at least once but, in the storyline, Master Chief doesn't die, you simply reload your game and continue on to beat the leve and, eventually, the game, dying periodicly through out the game.
Well, how does that work? Well, think of it this way; all those times you died never happened, as far as the story is concerned. Only the time that you actually lived really happened.
Now, think of Master Togo; How many times has he died in those early canthan missions where you have to protect him? Seriously, if he really died all those times it'd be seriously hard for Shiro to harness his power later on. How do we answer this? All those times the players let Togo die never happened. Only the time that the player succeeded really happened.
There is a loop hole in this on how the players can die, get rezzed, die again and build up DP. Well... Maybe it's just that you really didn't die, it's just a function in the game to add a challenge to it. So you REALLY didn't die, it just looks like it. :P
As for why Togo wasn't rezzed right after Shiro killed him, assumming my idea isn't viable, probably the reason that they couldn't rez him was that Shiro harnesses his soul right there? Just a thought...
Another crazy idea from a complete lunatic, but hey; now you have my two cents.
